Bowls England ‘Club of The Year’ Award 2012

Following our success in becoming ‘Club of the Year’ runner-up in 2011 ...........

From the Bowls England website 12/10/12

Clarence BC, Somerset, named 'Club of the Year'

Bowls England is delighted to announce that Clarence BC in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, has today been named as the 2012 'Club of the Year'.

They beat off stiff opposition from Berkhamsted BC in Hertfordshire, to win the prestigious competition that was once again generously sponsored by Drakes Pride, with Lockswood BC in Hampshire being highly-commended.

Clarence BC demonstrated to the judges its continued efforts to promote the club, recruit new people to the sport of bowls and provide a range of services of benefit to all its members. The highlights of its work were daily open sessions throughout May, whilst a local school now uses the club for weekly sessions that has led to the formation of a junior section.

A new format for the event was introduced this year - with the judging panel determining a Regional Winner from all of the nominations received that then formed the national shortlist from which the winner and runner-up were selected.

The regional winners were:

- Clarence BC, Somerset (West Region)
- Berkhamsted BC, Hertfordshire (East Region)
- Lockswood BC, Hampshire (South Region)

Tony Allcock MBE, Bowls England Chief Executive, said: "I am delighted to announce Clarence BC in Somerset as winners of the 2012 Club of the Year title. All three regional winners were of an exceptionally high standard and Clarence BC is a worthy winner of the overall title. I would like to congratulate all those clubs who participated in the competition, and to thank Drakes Pride for their continuing support of this competition, which really does highlight the great work that is going on in clubs across the country to support our sport."

As winners Clarence BC will receive:

- £250 cash
- Four sets of Drakes Pride Bowls
- The Tony Allcock Trophy (to be kept for one year)
- Two Free Tickets to the Bowls England Men's Annual Dinner

- Bowls England Pennant and Club of the Year Flag
- Framed Certificate
- A badge for each club member
- A match against a visiting Bowls England President's Team
